VOCAL brodcasts local voices and issues from the perspective of cultural commentators and activists. This season we bring together Tasawar Bashir (NAE ExperiMENTOR and creative agitator), Shad Ali (community activist and change agent), and Salma Yaqoob (media current affairs commentator and leader of the Respect Party).
The panel will discuss issues facing the Pakistani community in the UK today, including: the impact of substance abuse amongst young Mirpury boys/men; the impact of arranged marriages on children (where one partner has migrated from Mirpur); the low academic achievement amongst Mirpuri boys; the Disproportionate number of young Muslims going into custody; and issues around ‘integration’.
