Taking place on Friday 10 February 2012, Light Night sees hundreds of events taking place across Nottingham city centre. The aim is to give people the chance to participate in an event that changes the ambiance of the city after dark and allows visitors to see their city in a new light.

Last year's Light Night event did much to transform the city of Nottingham after dark by surreal light installations, artist commissions and street performers. Children were invited into a secret garden, there were spooky terror tours, live jam sessions, treasure trails with a twist, moving mazes and disco dance floors! The city hosted families and visitors who enjoyed themselves discovering different attractions across the city that they perhaps never knew existed.

So whether it's modern Olympic swordfighting in the Council House Ballroom, a light village at Nottingham Contemporary, heritage images projected in Old Market Square or a Lava Lamp forest at Broadway, there are plenty of things to see and do. You can download the 2012 Light Night schedule of events online here.

A super addition to the festivities is a live music festival organised by Nottingham city centre licencees and the Nottingham Business Improvement District, We Are Nottingham. A list of participating venues is available to download here too.

Sylvia Oates, Chief Executive of We Are Nottingham, said: "We Are Nottingham, the Business Improvement District representing the city's leisure businesses, is once again joining up with Nottingham City Council to provide additional funds for this fantastic night time event.

"Light Night is a great opportunity for visitors to come and enjoy Nottingham after dark and experience the whole spectrum of the city's diverse offer in the evening. This year, we are providing a programme of entertainment to take place within some of the city's bars, pubs and hotels.

Nottingham continues to fly the Purple Flag award that stands for its exceptional variety of city venues, safety and cleanliness after dark and still boasts additional Purple Flag Status for its late night offering.
