DICKENS ON SCREEN:
AN ILLUSTRATED TALK 6.30PM
& DICKENS IN LONDON 8.45PM
Screenwriter Michael Eaton and Film London CEO Adrian Wootton, will give an overview of the rich
and varied history of Dickens film and TV adaptations from 1898 to 2012, taking in both the classics and neglected curios and liberally interspersing their talk with film clips. This will be followed by Dickens in London, a new artist commission. Five of Dickens’ journalistic essays were adapted by Michael Eaton for five radio plays (featuring Anthony Sher, Alex Jennings and Samuel Barnett) depicting Dickens’ impressions of London. Film artist Chris Newby responded to the plays and, working in counterpoint to the audio, created an arresting, powerful and highly distinctive work that incorporates animation, puppetry and contemporary footage, and a Neil Brand score.
Tickets for talk & film:
