Under the Haystack - Manuscripts and special collections, University of Nottingham

RARE D.H. LAWRENCE paintings which have remained unseen in this country for almost 85 years are going on display in the writer’s hometown of Eastwood.

The D.H. Lawrence Heritage Centre will exhibit 25 full-sized reproductions of the writer’s paintings for the first time since police seized 13 of the pieces from an exhibition at London’s Warren Gallery in July 1929. The pieces were deemed obscene at the time, but would no longer be considered so by today’s standards.

The ‘D.H. Lawrence Controversy on Canvas: The Warren Gallery, London 1929’ exhibition will open to the public on Thursday 6th September at the D.H. Lawrence
Heritage Centre’s Rainbow Gallery in Mansfield Road, Eastwood. The exhibition will run until Sunday 18th November.
