Kelham

Kelham is a small village on the main road between Newark and Farnsfield, which is famed for its involvement in the Civil War. When King Charles I surrendered at Southwell in 1647, he was held at Kelham Hall by the Scots. Kelham Hall is a famous landmark for the village, and is a Grad I listed building sitting within 52 acres of park land. It has had several incarnations, having been destroyed twice and re-built over time. The current Kelham Hall is the hall to sit on the site and takes its looks from Victorian inspired gothic design. It was completed in 1863.

Kelham Hall is now the main offices for Newark and Sherwood District Council, although given the hall's appeal it is also available for weddings and conferences.

Across the road from Kelham Hall, you can also visit and stay at the Kelham House Hotel, with its Kitchen Garden Restaurant serving fresh local dishes daily. Kelham House was built by the Manners Sutton family, the same family who owned Kelham Hall.
