Nottinghamshire has some excellent places to visit, and what better way to explore the countryside and towns than by two wheels.
From quiet lanes and off road cycle paths to something a little more challenging, cycling in Nottingham is accessible to everyone.
You don’t even have to bring your own bike as there are places within the County that you can hire a suitable bike from.

Plan your route
There are various publications and web-sites to help you plan your route;
Nottinghamshire County Council have produced a brochure 'Cycling in Nottinghamshire - Countryside and detailed Town Centre Maps', which is excellent and very informative.
Nottinghamshire County Coucil have also put together information on 'Planning Cycle Routes - Where to Ride' as well as a very useful 'Cycle Journey Planner'.
Why not try the cycle routes through the heart of Robin Hood country?
The Ancient Sherwood Route and the Adventure Pine Route are approximately 20 miles long, the route is designed to take a day when incorporated with planned stop offs for refreshments, activities and enjoying the attractions. There are three road crossing points en-route and a further two within Clumber Park.

Rural Rides Programme
Nottinghamshire County Council run the guided Rural Rides programme that is free of charge. You'll find a ride suitable for you, whatever your age or ability. If you haven't ridden for a while, Nottinghamshire County Council can help with Child Cycle Training and free Adult Cycling Training.
The National Cycle Network
This also passes through Nottinghamshire. More details are available from Sustrans, the cycling charity who created it.
Parks and routes
Nottinghamshire has some great areas for cycling, a few are listed below, but you can find much more if you explore.
Clumber Park has a large path network which is excellent for cycling.
Sherwood Pines has woodland paths as well as a mountain bike tracks that are well worth checking out.
Rushcliffe County Park has a trails bike run and extensive play areas and open spaces.
The Big Track is a 10 mile waterside car free route that starts in Nottingham City.
Bestwood Country Park is also great for cycling.

- Sherwood Pines (this is the closest cycle hire venue to Sherwood Forest, please note there are no cycle hire facilities available at Sherwood Forest National Nature Reserve)
