Nottinghamshire - the county to keep you busy!

Nottinghamshire has quite a history when it comes to sporting activities and we were delighted to be named Visit England’s official Home of Sport in 2015. Nottingham Forest’s legendary manager Brian Clough, skating stars Torvil and Dean, and boxing champion Carl Froch are all inspiring locals who made their name in the sporting world, so why not follow in their footsteps and get active in Nottinghamshire?

We are lucky to be home to the National Ice Centre, where you can twirl and glide on the ice, plus the National Watersports Centre, which offers a huge range of activities, from canoeing, rowing, water skiing and white water rafting. Or if you’re a bit of a adrenaline junkie then make sure you check out our ‘Adventure Sports’ section where you’ll find lots of exciting activities on offer.  Alternatively, for a more leisurely day, take a waterside stroll, go fishing, play golf or hire a bicycle.

If you prefer your feet on the ground, there are plenty of walking trails along our canals, through country parks and historic estates, or market towns such as Newark and Southwell. Sherwood Forest of course offers plenty of trails to explore by bicycle, on foot, or via Segway if you want to cheat a little! See our ‘Outdoors’ section for even more ideas.

For a real treat, why not explore in style on horseback? Coloured Cobb Equestrian Centre offers pony trekking, hacking and lessons within the beautiful Nottinghamshire countryside, with party package treks and combined trek and spa packages to relax with after.

Throughout the year Nottinghamshire plays host to numerous running events, including the famous Ikano Robin Hood Marathon, Half and Mini Marathon which is held every September. The race attracts more than 10,000 people, from elite athletes to fun runners, and takes in some of the city’s most impressive sights such as the University of Nottingham campus and Victoria Embankment. For more running routes throughout the city, have a look at this handy map from Crown Plaza.
