Festivals

A place of festivals

From some of the biggest arts Festival in England to comedy, food, music, film, books and children’s activities, you'll usually find somewhere in the city that is in full festival swing.

It’s not just the summer months that draw the festival crowds. Nottinghamshire knows how to celebrate arts and culture all year round with festivals packing venues and filling the streets right across the calendar.

A selection of festivals for you ...

Throughout the year there's always something happening and here's a quick calendar highlight of what to expect in 2012. You can always find out more events by searching through your preferred dates within our What's On section.

Spring

From March, the Living in Silk exhibition will be at Nottingham Castle. Part of the Cultural Olympiad, this is a celebration of thousands of years of Chinese silk. As spring gets further under way, you'll find the Newark and Notts County Show at Newark Showground in May.

Summer

Once June arrives, the summer becomes a super time to visit with a whole host of things happening, including the Southwell Folk Festival, Dot to Dot Festival in Nottingham, No Direction Home at Welbeck Abbey and the Earth and Fire Ceramics Festival at Rufford Abbey.

In July, look out for Outdoor Theatre at Nottingham Castle and Newstead Abbey, together with the emerging Food and Drink Festival in Nottingham city centre. August brings the world renown Robin Hood Festival and the Riverside Festival on the Victoria Embankment in Nottingham.

Autumn

As we head in to autumn, the World Events Young Artists comes to Nottingham in September as part of the Cultural Olympiad with exhibitions, performances and displays at various venues across the city. Also seek out the DH Lawrence Festival in Eastwood for a variety of events celebrating the enigmatic author.

One of the best times to visit our region has to be October, Goose Fair starts a month that is packed with events including the Robin Hood Beer Festival, the Robin Hood Game and Country Show in Newark, GameCity and the Robin Hood Pageant.

Winter

As the year draws to a close, we welcome winter and the run up to Christmas with Lustre in November at the Lakeside Arts Centre and Aurora illuminations at Rufford Abbey in December.

And there's more ...

Both Nottingham City Council and Nottingham County Council provide a comprehensive programme of festivals and events that offer something for everyone to enjoy.
