In spite of confused history, geography and garbled accents, it boasted a scene stealing turn from Alan Rickman as the Sheriff of Nottingham. It also featured an understated dignified performance from Morgan Freeman as Azeem, a Saracen who, in the face of western arrogance, demonstrates that the Islamic world was philosophically and technically more advanced.
