Nature Reserves

With so much open countryside it’ll be no surprise to learn that Nottinghamshire is a haven for wildlife, both in the wild at our excellent nature reserves and also at one of our many farm parks

Farm parks offer something for all the family. Younger members can enjoy touching and feeding the animals, or make use of exciting play areas.  Many farm parks also feature farm shops and tea rooms along with offering homemade ice cream

The County of Nottinghamshire offers many things to do to keep you busyand is a great place to explore farm and countryside attractions.

Sherwood Forest Nature Reserve

Once part of a Royal Hunting Forest, today this is a Site of Special Scientific Interest containing more than 1,000 veteran oaks - many over five centuries old.

Attenborough Nature Centre

Owned and managed by Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, Attenborough Nature Centre is an award winning eco-friendly visitor attraction surrounded by the tranquil waters of the beautiful nature reserve. This beautiful complex of flooded former gravel pits and islands provides 360 acres of exceptional habitat for a wide range of plants, birds and other wildlife.

Coming soon

Plans are underway to create a major new RSPB reserve on the outskirts of Beckingham, Nottinghamshire. The Beckingham Marshes Project is one of the UK’s biggest wetland habitat restoration projects. When completed, it will cover over 800 hectares of farmland – the equivalent of approximately 1,600 football pitches. The project aims to revert land back to grassland and work with local farmers to re-introduce a cattle-grazing system, beneficial to ground-nesting birds
