Mansfield
Mansfield is Nottinghamshire’s largest Market Town located right on the edge of the beautiful countryside, perfect for relaxing walks and easy access to woodland areas of Sherwood Forest. Spend a few hours exploring Thieves Wood and Fountaindale, both located a few miles to the south of the town centre with close links to the Robin Hood legend.
If you’re looking for things to do with your family in Mansfield, then there is a lot to do. Water Meadows Swimming Centre isn’t just any old swimming pool, it has exciting attractions including a wave machine, 50m twister flume, rapids ride, fast drop flume and water cannons, perfect for the kids, and adults who are still kids at heart.
On a rainy day why not visit Making It! Discovery Centre where your children will be able to show off their creative skills. They will get a chance to design and make a product as well as experience the interactive galleries. The centre offers a fun, entertaining, engaging and educational day out for all the family.
On the outskirts of Mansfield as you venture closer to Sherwood Forest, you’ll find Wheelgate Adventure Park, a theme park with lots of rides and activities for children aged 5-12. Take a ride on the Mini Mine coaster or squirt each other on the bumper boats. Close by is the White Post Farm Centre, giving you the opportunity to get up close to some beautiful animals, including goats, deer, pigs, meerkats and even wallabies.
In Mansfield’s town centre itself, you’ll find Mansfield Museum which was recently awarded The Guardian’s Child Friendly Museum of the Year. There are regularly changing interactive exhibitions at the museum together with XplorActive - a child orientated learning experience with Eco Dude, the museum’s resident Eco Warrior.
Next door to Mansfield Museum is the Mansfield Palace Theatre which hosts a range of intriguing and enthralling plays and acts throughout the year.
Take the short walk from here down Leeming Street into the town centre and you will be greeted with an excellent shopping experience. The market in Mansfield is still a very vibrant place for traders and remains at the heart of the town centre.
On nearby West Gate is the Four Season’s Shopping Centre, home to major high street stores such as Debenhams and River Island. Further over on Bridge Street and Church Street, you’ll find more boutique shops offering a range of designer brands.
With a very vibrant nightlife, a large range of shops and a wealth of attractions close by, Mansfield remains a popular and proud place for many residents. We love Mansfield and if you head here, you’ll understand why.
