Pubs & Bars

Nottingham is the perfect place to enjoy the traditional English pint

With the oldest pub in England, Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem (located near the castle), you’ll have historic surroundings. In fact, in Nottingham we’ve always enjoyed a beer or two and only a short stumble away is Ye Old Salutation which dates back to 1240.

By Old Market Square is the Bell Inn, another great place to enjoy a drink and this is a favoured former watering hole of Lord Byron himself. Nottingham retains a very traditional feel as you head up to the Royal Concert Hall, try Langtry’s another classic pub in the heart of the city centre.

Nottingham's brand new "Real Ale Trail"

The Nottingham Real Ale Trail has been designed as a walking trail for both locals and visitors to the city, highlighting 14 of the best drinking holes in Nottingham, with a focus on their real ale offer.

The pubs featured in the Real Ale Trail are the Lincolnshire Poacher, Bunkers Hill, The Cross Keys, Kean’s Head, Cock & Hoop, The Lord Nelson, Newshouse, Vat & Fiddle, Ye Olde Salutation Inn, The Approach, Malt Cross, Bar 44 at Strathdon Hotel, The Roebuck Inn, Canalhouse and Fox & Crown.

Al fresco cafes and bars

Across the road from the Royal Concert Hall and around the corner from Langtry’s you’ll find The Cornerhouse and as you walk along Forman Street, Nottingham takes the appearance of a continental piazza. Ground floor restaurants and bars extend onto the paved pedestrian walkway.

Alternatively head for Waterfront Plaza at Castle Wharf where the pubs and bars back onto the canal front. You’ll find a vibrant but relaxed atmosphere with old and new standing together. The Canal House pub is set in a former canal museum with a bridge to get to the bar and The Waterfront is a modern tiered venue with a young crowd.

Look out for...

The Lord Nelson, Thurgarton Street, Sneinton. A 500 year-old building which, originally, was a couple of cottages and a coaching inn. This is a countrylike pub for customers who enjoy cask ale and entertainment, most recently known for their outdoor music festivals in the only beer garden in the area.

Chapel Bar, Low Pavement and the Lace Market. The best streets for stylish cafes, bars and restaurants in the city.

Carluccio's and Jamie's Italian. Two of Nottingham's latest big name restaurants.

The Robin Hood Beer Festival. A top draw for real ale fans every October at Nottingham Castle.
