Famous People

Over the centuries, Nottinghamshire has been home to many people who have helped change the course of history. Our famous faces include everyone from literary greats such as Lord Byron, D. H. Lawrence and Alan Sillitoe to contemporary artists like Jake Bugg along with sports stars, war heroes and, of course, our legendary outlaw Robin Hood. It has also been the city of great pioneers such as architect Watson Fothergill, whose distinctive buildings can be seen today, and Salvation Army founder William Booth.
