Nottingham is a vastly diverse when it comes to nightlife, so when darkness falls, there are plenty of places to play. Don’t forget to check out our What’s On listings for up to date events and things to do!

Live Music

Nottingham’s live music scene has been thriving for over a decade, with stars such as Jake Bugg, Sleaford Mods, Natalie Duncan and London Grammar all hailing from the city and bringing a flavour of Nottingham’s unique character to the world. But there are still countless acts keeping it local, with live music in many of our fantastic bars and venues almost any night of the week.

Nottingham’s modern art gallery, Nottingham Contemporary, attracts an array of eclectic international and national musicians to their Saturday evening programme of music, with more gigs often throughout the week. To catch the best of Nottingham’s buzzing independent music scene, check out the gig line-up at The Maze or Bunkers Hill, or relax at a Southbank City open mic.

Victorian music hall The Malt Cross is a gorgeous venue hosting regular gigs, events and workshops, including a Jazz Jam, Traditional Irish Sessions and a bring-your-own-vinyl night 33-45 every month. Further afield in Newark, at Strays Coffee you can catch live jazz at the weekend, best enjoyed with their delicious tapas and excellent coffee.

The Motorpoint Arena Nottingham has hosted world-renowned musical stars such as Sir Elton John, Oasis, The Who and Duran Duran and comedic personalities such as Lee Evans and John Bishop – with amazing stage sets and a huge capacity, this is the place to catch unforgettable legendary shows.

Throughout the year Nottinghamshire holds regular music festivals, including Forest Live, Dot to Dot, Splendour, and homegrown extravaganza Hockley Hustle.

Theatre & Entertainment

The city and county boast some spectacular theatre venues. Nottingham Playhouse, Palace Theatre Newark, Nottingham Arts Theatre, Lace Market Theatre and the Theatre Royal & Royal Concert Hall all offer a variety of diverse performances throughout all seasons.

If you fancy watching new film releases and eating popcorn, The Cornerhouse, located in the city centre, is one of Nottingham's best-loved entertainment venues. After the film, visit The Lost City Adventure Golf for a spot of crazy golf. Across town, in the historic area of Hockley, Broadway, a four-screen independent cinema, is another great place to sit back and see the best films from the UK and around the world.

As a UNESCO City of Literature, we have a thriving scene of spoken word poetry events. Regular nights are held in venues throughout the city, such as the alcohol-free cafe SoBar, which is a great spot for families to find evening entertainment. For something completely unique, check out Crosswords open mic which is held once a month, deep in the caves beneath Victorian music hall The Malt Cross.

Dining, Drinking & Dancing

For a truly classy night, begin your evening with a swanky cocktail and dish of oysters at The Curious Tavern, followed by dancing at Nottingham’s biggest and best nightclub, Pryzm. With six themed rooms, VIP booths and late-night music from the biggest names on the scene, this is a must visit for any night out in Nottingham! Top off your evening with a flutter at the luxurious Alea Casino, which boasts the acclaimed Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill, and popular Spanish Bar Esquina, along with live entertainment and 24 hour casino games.

Safety at Night

In 2017 Nottinghamshire was awarded a Purple Flag accreditation for the eighth consecutive year, identifying the city as offering an entertaining, diverse, safe and enjoyable night out. Operating from the Malt Cross, Street Pastors provide on-street support in the city centre on a Friday and Saturday night, helping to look after people who have become vulnerable on a night out in the city.
