Sobar

Sobar is the East Midlands’ first alcohol-free cafe bar and venue.
Sobar is the alcohol-free alternative cafe-bar venue for everyone; offering superb food, drink and original entertainment in a vibrant and welcoming environment.

Sobar has been developed by Double Impact, the Nottingham-based drug and alcohol recovery charity with the support of a grant from the Big Lottery Fund. To find out more about the work of Double Impact visit their website http://www.doubleimpact.org.uk/.
The initial concept for Sobar came from the users of Double Impact services who found that one of the main barriers to their recovery was social isolation and the lack of places to go that are alcohol free, particularly in the evenings and weekends. Our vision is to provide Nottingham with an alternative to the mainstream cafes and bars and create a really convivial and creative space open to everyone who wants the choice to socialise without a focus on alcohol.

The building Sobar is housed in was originally the headquarters of the Nottingham Building Society, officially opened by Sir Joseph Stamp, the then Governor of The Bank of England in 1929. Through working closely with the Nottingham Building Society, Framework Housing Association and local design company Constellations, we have been able to sympathetically transform the space whilst retaining a lot of its original features.

Sobar is a Community Interest Company so all profits go directly back into Double Impact the charity and help fund the services needed to support people in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. The bar also provides opportunities for people in recovery to gain valuable experience, training, volunteering and employment. So whilst enjoying great food and drink you’ll also be supporting a fantastic cause and helping local people to change their lives.

So whether you’re calling in for breakfast or coffee, lunch with friends, or dinner and mocktails in the evening, you can always be sure of a warm welcome and if you don’t have time to stay we also offer a grab and go take away service.
Thanks for your support.
