A STUNNING AND HISTORIC COMMUNITY PUB WITH A RICH HISTORY AND EXCITING FUTURE
The Embankment was designed by Albert Nelson Bromley, the architect behind some of the most distinctive Boots pharmacy buildings, and opened in 1907 as ‘Boots Store 2.’ In 1919 the Boots Social Club was formed on the same site, created by Jesse Boot as a place of recreation for his staff. The social club was so popular it soon expanded throughout the building and, following the closure of Boots Store 2 in 1979, took over the whole site.
Having served as an essential ‘community hub’ since, Castle Rock are eager to retain and further enhance this element of the Embankment. Located on the city side of Trent Bridge, the pub is also ideally located for sporting fans visiting both Nottingham football grounds and of course Trent Bridge cricket ground.
Castle Rock took over operations of the Embankment in June 2015, with the aim of restoring the building and creating an excellent community pub. The Embankment is Castle Rock’s biggest site and project yet, set over three floors with eight distinctive areas and four separate bars. Plans include the creation of the ‘Dispensary’ located in the former Boots Store 2, the ‘Basement’ sports bar, and a new beer garden. Upstairs, Jesse Boot’s office will remain as it always has, and the current function room will be enhanced to create a beautiful wedding and private event venue.
Castle Rock will keep the Embankment open and serving throughout the refurbishment, so do visit soon and feel free to share your ideas. You’ll of course find Castle Rock real ales on the bar alongside premium lagers, spirits and locally roasted coffee.
