Café Sobar

Café Sobar is one of a kind.

It’s the East Midlands’ first and only alcohol-free café bar and venue. A vibrant and welcoming alcohol-free environment offering something for everyone. Named as one of Nottingham's Top 10 bars by The Culture Trip, the café-bar venue is a refreshing alternative to mainstream bars and restaurants.

Opened back in 2014 by Double Impact, the Nottingham-based alcohol and drug recovery charity, the initial idea for Café Sobar came from the users of Double Impact services, who found that one of the main barriers to their recovery was social isolation and the lack of places to go that are alcohol-free, particularly in the evenings and at weekends.

Café Sobar’s vision? Provide Nottingham with an alternative to the mainstream restaurants and bars, offering a convivial and creative space open to everyone who wants the choice to socialise without a focus on alcohol.

Before Café Sobar was born, the building was originally the headquarters of the Nottingham Building Society, officially opened by Sir Joseph Stamp, the then Governor of The Bank of England in 1929. Through working closely with the Nottingham Building Society, Framework Housing Association and local design company Constellations, the space has been sympathetically transformed whilst retaining a lot of its stunning original features.

Café Sobar is a Community Interest Company so all profits go directly back into Double Impact the charity and help fund the services needed to support people in recovery to rebuild their lives. The bar also provides opportunities for people in recovery to gain valuable experience, training, volunteering and employment.

So whether you’re calling for one of our signature all day breakfasts, catching up with friends over lunch or simply enjoying our perfectly prepared 200 degrees coffee, you can always be sure of a warm welcome.

Don’t have time to stay? No worries! We also offer a grab and go take away service.

Every time you visit Café Sobar, as well as enjoying great food and drink in a warm, welcoming atmosphere, you’ll also be supporting a fantastic cause and helping local people to change their lives. Thank you for your support!
