Rufford Abbey Country Park is the estate and grounds of a former 12 century Cistercian Monastery and country house. One of the main country parks that make up the broader Sherwood Forest area, the attraction is popular with visitors throughout the year.

Most people who visit Rufford Abbey take the gentle walk around the lake which lasts around 20 minutes or head to the gardens and the children’s play area. At the side of the abbey there is a large grass area that is perfect for picnics, playing games and generally just hanging out with the family.

There are two places to eat and drink at the main area of Rufford Abbey, the Coach House cafe is located in the main courtyard and the Savile Restaurant can be found at the back of the abbey near the entrance to the gardens. There is a smaller cafe near Rufford Mill by the lake and the ford.

Rufford Abbey often hosts major special events, including the Earth and Fire Ceramics Festival in June and a 1940s Weekend in September. At Christmas time it is well renowned for its Aurora event which creatively lights up the gardens after dark.

You’ll also find a craft centre in the courtyard at Rufford with various exhibitions throughout the year and workshops available to the public throughout the year. Please check for details.
