Welcome to The Museum Of The Horse!
You don’t have to be a horse enthusiast to enjoy the Museum of The Horse at Tuxford, Nottinghamshire. Within the award winning collection at the museum there are items from many parts of the world with unusual saddles and bits from Africa, strange japanese items, an unbelievable bronze horse bit from Indonesia, very pretty stirrups and other pieces from India and some beautiful bridles and stirrups from China and Tibet.
There are items from the days of the Horse drawn carriages and stage coaches, cart horse harness from England and Europe, and a fascinating collection of horse show badges from the 19thC including from The Great London Horse Show at Olympia.
The collection also includes anything of interest that was in some way functional and connected with horses. The earliest pieces date from 600 BC and include antique saddles, antique bridles, antique bits, antique stirrups. antique horse shoes, harness, working horse equipment, pit pony equipment and antique veterinary equipment.
There is also an antique clothing department including antique riding boots over two hundred years old, and also a wonderful collection of horse show badges which contribute to telling the story of how the Hunter's improvement Society was formed and who was involved. Well worth a visit!
