Holme Pierrepont Hall

Holme Pierrepont Hall, nestled in a tranquil, rural setting is a fascinating Tudor house.

Built in 1500 by Sir William Pierrepont it is the earliest brick building in Nottinghamshire and is still lived in by his descendants.  The interior of the house is filled with portraits, regional furniture and personal possessions, still very much a family home.

The house has many stories to tell such as its links with Bess of Hardwick, the first legal divorce, and the English Civil War.

The gardens are well worth a visit too with their stunning displays of snowdrops in February, tulips in spring and herbaceous borders in the summer.  The Courtyard garden designed in 1875, possibly influenced by Nesfield has a miniature box parterre.  The East garden laid out in 1972-3, has an avenue of topiary yews and shrubs in the borders.  The orchard, enclosed by a 17th Century wall is home to a flock of Jacob sheep.  There is also a two acre wood to walk through which was planted in Victorian times.  In April, the Tulipa sylvestris can be seen growing in profusion in the parkland.

2017 opening times:
