D.H. Lawrence was born at 8a Victoria Street, 1885, the first of the Lawrence family’s four Eastwood homes.
Visit this authentically recreated miner’s cottage, birthplace of world renowned Nottinghamshire author D.H. Lawrence, then explore the surrounding countryside, which inspired his work.
This charming, award-winning Museum & Gift Shop also features and exhibition including his original water colour paintings and his headstone!
This family friendly museum offers children’s trails, vintage toys and more to keep the little ones occupied during your visit!
Things to see and do
Visits to the Birthplace Museum are by timed tours where you can:
• Learn about family life in the mining community, which shaped Lawrence’s formative years.
• View the house where the family lived, and see some of their own personal items!
• Relax in our museum garden.
• Visit nearby craft workshops and the charming White Peacock Café.
• Browse our Gift Shop for books, souvenirs and gifts!
Your visit normally starts at the appointed time with a self-guided tour of our exhibition space, a 12-minute DVD followed by a guided tour of the historic rooms of the house.
The Museum is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 4pm.
Admission to the Birthplace Museum is by timed entry only.
