Making it local - Notts Libraries & Family History Society

Local Studies

The Local Studies Library in Nottingham Central Library has information about the City of Nottingham specifically, and the County of Nottinghamshire generally.

In addition to census returns, parish registers, indexes, trade directories and Internet access to online resources, the collection includes one copy of virtually every book written about Nottinghamshire people, places and subjects. Also held are newspapers dating back to 1714, photographs, films and oral history recordings which provide a broad insight into the heritage of the area.

Libraries

Libraries in the city of Nottingham and throughout the county have material relevant to their local area.

City library contact details can be found at mynottingham and county libraries can be found at nottinghamshire.gov.uk.

The Nottinghamshire Family History Society

The Nottinghamshire Family History Society brings together people interested in family history research, helps in the preservation and indexing of local genealogical records, and copies and publishes such records.

Having previously used its website as the principal means of communication, the Society has recently established a Research Room at the Galleries of Justice Museum, Nottingham. Membership is inexpensive and very good value for the support and encouragement it brings.
