Christmas Skating

It is now 32 years since Nottingham figure skaters Torvill and Dean swept to victory at the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics. This Christmas you are invited to take to the ice in the gold medallists' home town where you will be able to pirouette like a professional or enjoy a fun-filled afternoon skating with friends or family.

Skating in the Old Market Square

The centrepiece of Nottingham's Winter Wonderland is the outdoor ice rink which gives you the chance to skate beneath the stars. Take a walk around the market's snow-capped cabins, listen to live music and marvel at the impressive Christmas tree before gliding around on the ice. The Winter Wonderland is open until 8th January and further details, including how to book your skating tickets, can be found here.

Skating at the National Ice Centre

If you don't want to skate outdoors then head to the National Ice Centre. Skate at the biggest ice rink around from 15th to 30th December 2016! The NIC is the place to be this festive season with skating sessions every day, a host of special themed events and parties, plus a chance to skate on the Christmas rink and meet Santa’s reindeer.

This year, Santa’s arranged for his reindeer to visit the National Ice Centre. Santa’s reindeer and Christmas elves will be outside on Bolero Square from 10am – 4pm on the 21, 22 and 23 December. Anyone that books a skate on those dates can visit Santa’s reindeer before or after their skating session. The experience will include the opportunity to pet, feed, and take pictures with the reindeer. Delicious hot drinks and mince pies will also be served out on Bolero Square, and special reindeer merchandise will be available to purchase – it’s the perfect treat for the family before the big day! Booking is strongly advised. The free reindeer visit is included with every ice skating ticket purchased at the standard skating price on 21, 22 and 23 December only.

Christmas skating events at the National Ice Cenre include:

Ice Wars (skate with Star Wars characters) on 15 December
UV Paint Party Club session on 16 December
Skate with Santa and Friends on 17 December
Skate with the Nottingham Panthers on 21 December
Skate with a Princess on 28 December
