Christmas Lights

As the festive season approaches, Nottinghamshire comes to life with Christmas lights and decorations adorning shops and buildings.

At the flick of a switch you will see a magical Winter Wonderland appear in the centre of Nottingham while our towns and villages will be illuminated as festive events take place at the end of November and begining of December 2017. The celebrations coincide with the start of late-night shopping so why not enjoy a mulled wine and something delicious to eat before buying your Christmas gifts?

Nottingham - City Centre

Christmas in the city kicks off on Friday 17 November, with the opening of Nottingham Winter Wonderland at 11am and Christmas lights switch-on at 7.30pm.

The Lord Mayor of Nottingham, Councillor Mike Edwards, will ‘press the plunger’, lighting up Old Market Square’s 40-year-old grand fir tree, the Christmas market and the front of the Council House, officially marking the start of Nottingham’s Christmas festivities.

Winter Wonderland will remain open until 10pm for those eager to get into the festive spirit.

Newark - Market Place

Lights switch-on: 26th November, 11am - 10.30pm

The count-down to Christmas in Newark will begin on 26th November with a day of activities, live music and market with the lights switch-on and full schedule of entertainment throughout the day. Find out what else you can expect here.

Mansfield - Market Square

Lights switch-on: 19th November

The market town of Mansfield will host an afternoon of fun and entertainment at the Big Switch-On, which takes place in the town square. This year is set to be bigger and better with FREE and low cost activities taking place throughout the day. See Marshall from PAW Patrol at intervals throughout the day, visit Santa in his grotto in Four Seasons, take part in the Buzzy B Club activities and sample a variety of food from the food court. There's also a children's Christmas party at 3pm at the main stage to get children geared up and ready for the main show.

Other Christmas lights switch-on events

There are more events planned at other towns and villages including Beeston on 2nd December and the rural Nottinghamshire village of Eastwood on the 28th November.

Elsewhere in the county you will find Christmas events taking place in Retford on 26th November. There will also be plenty of festive cheer, including a market, fairground rides and music when the lights are turned on in West Bridgford on 2nd December.
