Nottingham City Transport is working closely to make its services accessible to blind and partially sighted customers. Drivers are expected to state their service number and destination when they stop and if it isn’t your service they will advice the Control Room in order to let the relevant driver know you are there. Half of NCT buses have audio stop announcements, the available routes can be found here.
Of the entire fleet of buses have audio stop announcements to assist blind and partially-sighted customers to get around the city. Assistance dogs are carried free of charge. More information can be found here.
All Nottingham City Transport (NCT) buses have low floors for easy access, and ample space for a wheelchair with the legal requirement of accommodating a ‘standard reference wheelchair’. A ‘Class 2’ mobility scooter can be carried by permit holders only. Pushchairs share the same bay with wheelchair users so if you are travelling with infants you should be prepared to collapse your pushchair and place it within the luggage rack, to allow a wheelchair user on board.
All Nottingham City Transport drivers have completed externally credited and highly regarded disability awareness training which has covered how to park at the bus stop, deploying the ramp, lowering the bus and how to offer support and advice to customers with disabilities.
Timetables and leaflets can be provided in alternative formats such as Braille, large print and audio. These can be obtained by contacting the Travel Centre where the team will be happy to support with planning a journey.
